1) Coins – not necessarily, but perhaps in the fullness of time it may be worth considering. Probably not Mary Mackillop though.

2) Union Jack – the question of the flag is a whole separate issue that I think needs to be considered and debated separately.

3) HMS – I don’t see why some common sense conventions like HMS could not be retained.

I thought Australia is independent – making decisions, laws and institutions independent of United Kingdom.

Without an Australian head of state, I don’t think its good enough unfortunately. Such a significant remnant of our previous colonial status should not be preserved if we are to proclaim ourself a truly independent, forward-thinking state.
