If it persists at the level it has done over the past year or so, inflation will start to become a serious problem, one would have to think.

Unfortunately budgeting at the scale that governments do requires achieving a degree of balance between what the government thinks it should spend money and where it thinks money should be saved. It is a zero-sum game.

Is flation at current a real problem? Which is better, style or substance? What is the purpose of ratifying Kyoto if the solar rebate gets targetted by the razor gang?

Yeah, I am somewhat disappointed that the baby bonus was not scrapped completely. I think Rudd probably committed to not scrapping it prior to the election, however, so maybe that was part of the reason why that didn't happen.

I certainly admit that there is nothing much in the budget to get too pleased and excited about, but then this is partly a result of the fact that the government had already pledged to deliver quite a substantial portion of the major spending initiatives, and of course the prevailing inflationary climate. In the current circumstances, being drab and boring is probably a virtue.

Guy! Nice new site mate. Sorry I've been in hibernation but am attempting to reactivate a little so I'll go update my links right now.

Still don't know how to react overall. Budget leaves me a bit bla. I think the medicare levy decision was foolish and populist, and while I like the ideal of the universal perfect health system I'd rather they fixed the existing one for those who can't afford better before extending its net.

Like the future investment funds, can see the logic in stashing the money until the inflation monkey loosens its grip.

Be really nice if they just scrapped baby bonus and child care rebate completely, but in turn funded 100% expansion of the community child care system, and pumped the rest into schools.

Yeah... still letting it sink in...
