Yes, it is indeed an interesting service with a multitude of possible applications. I have only just signed up and am not yet organised enough to have twittered anything, but that will likely change in the near future. ;)

It certainly is the sort of thing that could become annoying if used in an obsessive way. One needs only to consider what happens when people start updating their Facebook status multiple times a day to fathom how annoying Twitter could potentially be for those with obsessive friends.

I'm staying far away from twitter as possible. That is one site I DO NOT want to get addicted to. Plus, my life isn't all that exciting these day. It just involves, eating, sleeping, frequent visits to the loo, day time television and shopping. I mean, do u reallyyyyy want details now?

It's interesting stuff alright. I signed up ahead of some travel I'll be doing, as I reckon it will be handy then. A mate of ours in Laos uses it very effectively, shipping updates to her blog and elsewhere, and that sold me on it.

Twitter is also finding uses in the world of activism/journalism/bloggery (if that's a world - you know what I mean). During the recent strike and protests in Egypt, for instance, Twitter's mobile phone function was employed to get snippets of news out when the state was cracking down on media. See here for an example (first paragraph).

Well said, Guy. Twitter can defintely go a long way in breaking down any barriers and make self-expression much easier (for better or worse).

I've recently signed up - here's hoping that I'll be able to say something profound (and within 140 characters)!
